The rationale behind this report is to understand and assess dispute resolution mechanisms available to family businesses in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

The report concentrates on litigation and the two dominant forms of alternative dispute resolution: mediation and arbitration. The research methodology consists of primary and secondary research, including interviews with experts and stakeholders across the region and reviews of international best practices.

This report’s recommendations are grouped to aid the three audiences at which it is targeted: family businesses, legal professionals, and government bodies. This study is the first of its kind: no specific reports on dispute resolution solutions for GCC family businesses have been previously produced.
